Our Walmart CAMPAIGN

Clocking in shouldn’t be a death sentence.

America’s biggest retailer, controlled by the globe’s richest family, employs over 1.5 million people – and is the largest employer of Black, Latinx people and women in every Southern State.

But these people are not safe at work. Walmart put an end to their COVID leave policy in March of 2022, putting even more pressure on associates to come to work sick. Associates don’t get paid sick time unless local laws force Walmart to do it, and get “points” for calling out. Enough points means losing your job.

In January of 2022, Walmart associate Janikka Perry died at work as a result of these dangerous policies. She worked her whole shift feeling sick, went to the bathroom, and collapsed on the floor. She was left there for almost two hours – while customers came in and out of the bathroom and colleagues heard her cries for help – before the ambulance she managed to call showed up. But it was too late. Janikka died that night at age 38.
